Math Preview Courses ($450 for two weeks)
Get a jumpstart on next year’s math course! Each week will cover new material from the beginning of the course, as well as review key concepts and essential math skills from the previous year. Our small classes allow for individualized instruction and are equally valuable for both struggling students and those entering honors courses. These courses prepare students for the new Common Core integrated Math A & B offered at Carmel Valley Middle School and Earl Warren and will be using the Utah Middle School Math Project adopted by the District as well as our own materials to provide extra practice and fluency. Integrated Math 1 and 2 will use the Mathematics Vision Project adopted by the San Dieguito Union High School District.
Math A Preview
This will be a workshop focused on key skills in solving algebraic equations, probability/percents, and geometry. Students will be modeling geometric figures, developing strategies to solve word problems along with daily basic skills drill. Math building activities and projects will be embedded to reinforce topics covered.
Math B Preview
This will be a workshop focused on solving, graphing, and writing equations. Students will be looking at patterns and understanding the reasoning behind mathematical equations. As this workshop previews some abstract concepts, students will have hands-on activities and visuals to aid in their learning.
Math 1 Preview
This will be a workshop focused on more advanced topics in graphing, solving and writing equations similar Algebra 2 course topics. Students will be looking systems of equations and inequalities taking their prior algebraic skills to a more complex level. Uses properties and theorems involving congruent figures to deepen and extend understanding of geometric knowledge from prior grades.
Math 2 Preview
The focus of this workshop is on quadratic expressions, equations, and functions. The link between probability and data is explored through conditional probability and counting methods, including their use in making and evaluating decisions. Students will explore concepts of similarity which leads to an understanding of right triangle trigonometry and connects to quadratics through Pythagorean relationships.
