A third-generation educator, Michael began his own teaching journey in 2007 as a substitute teacher while completing his credential program. He earned his bachelor's degree in American History from Chapman University in 2007 and will complete his master's program in American History this fall from Gettysburg College. He has previously taught courses in geography, world, and American history at the middle, high school, and AP level in addition to being an AP reader. An amateur musician, Michael performs with the Orange Coast College Wind Ensemble as Principal trumpet since 2004. He also performs as a member of Taps for Veterans, providing live performances of Taps at military funerals across Southern California. As band leader and principal musician for the Armory Band - part of the Academy of Living History Performing Arts - Michael organizes and participates in living history events across the United States including school programs, historical reenactments, and film and television programs. Michael has coached cross country and track and field at both the middle and high-school levels. His athletes have set numerous school and district records and competed regularly at the CIF sectional and Masters meets. He is a certified NFHS Coach Level 3 for both middle and high school, an Accredited Interscholastic Coach, with additional certifications in sports nutrition, program design, speed and agility, weightlifting, and performance from the National Sports Performance Association.
