HOMESTAYS

High Bluff Academy can place international students with American families who have children of a similar age. All families are carefully screened and once the child arrives, the homestay arrangement is closely monitored so that both the families and the student are as comfortable as possible.

All international students who come to High Bluff Academy on an F-1 visa without their immediate family, must be placed in a homestay or guardianship approved by the Principal. Students who are 18 years old may also be required to live with a family.

Homestay families provide the following:

A comfortable single or double room in a clean and safe family home
Two meals a day in the home and a packed lunch on school days
Transportation to and from school each day
Transportation to after-school activities
Family activities on the weekends
Trips to the doctor when necessary
Help with homework when needed
A chance to speak English and learn about American culture
Legal guardianship

HOMESTAY InTEREST

Being a homestay parent for an international student can be extremely fun and rewarding. Potential applicants should be willing to treat these children with the same care they would give to their own children. The job requires a certain amount of time and the ability to drive them to school and other activities. In return, the visiting students can be expected to help look after younger children and teach them about their languages and cultures. If you have an empty bedroom, why not volunteer as a homestay family. Students will pay between $1,200 (two students sharing a room) to $1500 (students having a single room and private bathroom). High Bluff Academy staff will work closely with you to ensure a successful experience.
